Cook Islands Map Guide
Cook Islands is a group of 15 islands and atolls occupying an area of around two million square kilometres of the South Pacific Ocean. As you can see from the map, the islands are widely scattered. In the past it was quite difficult to access for the modern-day traveller and indeed some are still only accessible by boat. However, the domestic airline of Air Rarotonga offers scheduled flights between Rarotonga and nine of the other islands.
The main island (the capital) of Cook Islands is Rarotonga, a roughly circular volcanic island found in the southern part of the nation. This is where most of the population is found and it is a popular destination for all kinds of Cook Islands holidays. The secondmost popular holiday destination in the Cooks is Aitutaki - one of the most beautiful atolls in the world, with a lagoon so large that you could fit the island of Rarotonga within it!
